Background to this Project
Jura Development Trust were delighted to open The Antlers on April 11th 2009. The building had been unused for many years. The opening event was well attended by locals, visitors, supporters & funders of the project. Reverend George Campbell kindly delivered a kind message of good luck followed by John Potts, JDT Chairman, who thanked all who had participated in successfully getting the project to conclusion. Jack Paton, as eldest Jura resident, did the honour of officially declaring the building open. Small Isles Catering, who were awarded the lease to run The Antlers Bistro & Restaurant, provided refreshments for everyone who came to have a look around the ‘new’ Antlers.
Although handing over much of the building’s function to Small Isles Catering – the JDT remain responsible for the Jura Heritage Interpretation display and locally produced Crafts. We received a grant from Scottish Natural Heritage which enabled us to get a computer to display more information and images digitally.
If anyone has any item or object relating to Jura past or present and would like to donate it to the display we would be really happy to have it. If it is documentation we will copy the information and return the original to you. Photographs would be welcome too and can be copied and returned.
