Could a community – owned wind turbine be feasible on Jura?

Andy Fletcher tells about his 150kW scheme
We’re still working on the idea of a 47m turbine at the North End of Jura. This is about twice the size of the Kilmeny turbine, and just over half the size of the structures at the new Allt Dearg wind farm that can be seen on the mainland above Ardrishaig.
We have started surveying the bird life to check whether there is any risk of impact, and Colin Campbell is having a look at a small bay near the site to see if we can bring turbine parts and construction vehicles straight in there.
We have an export agreement with the national grid for a small amount of power but are doing a lot of work collectively with the islands of Gigha, Islay, Colonsay, and Mull to see how we might make use of what we’d generate above that, and how we might be able to expand our export level.
If we make any progress, we’ll let you all know….!
