
WALKING
Walking on the island is a very popular pastime, with many visitors
to the island attempting the challenging Paps of Jura or exploring
the uninhabited west coast.
Please note that at certain times of the year Deer stalking is carried
out and for your own safety it is important that you contact individual
estates on which you wish to walk.

Below are 2 walks which the Tourism Sub-committee have had printed
in leaflet form, there are copies with a section of Ordnance Survey
map showing the route available on the island, or ask for one by post.
EVAN’S WALK.
Evan’s Walk is a 6 mile walk (12 miles return) which will take
you from the East to the West coast of the island, experiencing some
of the most beautiful views that Jura has to offer, also, the opportunity
to see the wild Red Deer for which the island is famous.
Glengarrisdale (Map over is 1: 25 000 )
7 km (3 ½ miles approx.) At a steady pace you can comfortably
walk there in
about 1 ¾ to 2 hours. (14km – 8 miles round trip approx.)

The perfect Day Trip
Jura House Gardens are large organic walled gardens surrounded by
woodland, fields and beaches, with walks along the rocky coastline
with fantastic views towards Kintyre and Islay. The garden has many
different moods - lovely perennial borders, exotic Australasian corner
and a burn stepping down to a wildflower meadow with tea tent and
plants for sale. A visit to this lovely oasis on the south shore is
well worth it.
